The Life & Work of Knox Church
We are a Christian community seeking to grow in knowledge of Jesus Christ and to live our lives as he teaches us. As part of our efforts to honour our First Nations sisters and brothers, we acknowledge the Algonquin First Nations people, upon whose traditional and unceded territory Knox Church resides. |
Worship & Reflection
Sunday Worship: This weekend is the First Sunday of Lent and we will also celebrate the sacrament of Communion. Our Lent worship theme this year is Give it Up for Jesus, and focuses on what we are called to forsake in order to follow in the way of Jesus. Sunday's sermon is Giving up Pride based on readings from Luke 14:7-14 and Psalm 131. For those joining the service on-line, the livestream begins @ 10:20 a.m HERE. Worship services are also archived on our YouTube Channel (Knox Ottawa) and on our website (HERE). A copy of the liturgy can be found at the end of this newsletter. Sermon Copies: By request, copies of Sunday sermons will be available in the Church Narthex on Sunday mornings. Children and Youth: Children and youth are invited to join in Bible-based exploration and activities, and parents and grandparents are welcome to have fun with us too! All will participate in worship in the sanctuary until Children’s Time, then exit via the side door for Sunday School. If you have questions about Knox Sunday School, or would like to get involved, please contact knoxsundayschoolottawa@gmail.com. If needed, a nursery on the lower level of the church, and a quiet room at the back of the sanctuary with a rocking chair, sink and toys are available for parents with babies and young children. The service can be heard from both places: in the quiet room through speakers in the narthex, and in the nursery with wifi access to the live streamed service. Everyone is also very welcome in the sanctuary. Please ask if there is anything you need. Bible Study: The next weekly, hybrid Bible Study is Wednesday, March 12th, from 10 to 11 a.m. We will continue the study of the Old Testament prophecy of Haggai. To join for the first time, in person or online, send an email to pastor.jim.pot@rogers.com. Prayer & Meditation: The church is open on Wednesdays, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, for prayers, meditation, and to allow the community an opportunity to enjoy our sanctuary. College & Careers: This week a new study began especially for young adults, reviewing a video series created by Dr. Tim Keller called Reason For God, a 6-part series focusing on difficult questions of Christian faith. Join us next Wednesday, March 12th at 7pm. We meet in the Parlour and entrance is through the Garden Courtyard. Jazz Vespers: Find respite and renewal in God’s Spirit at the end of the day. The next Jazz Vespers is on Wednesday, March 19th at 7 pm with musical guests Chris Fagan (vocals), Yves Laroche (piano), and Marek Przednowek (bass). |

Thank you! Mailboxes and Nametags in Geneva Hall: Mailboxes for those who attend Knox in person are located on the north side of Geneva Hall. For privacy reasons, the boxes are numbered. Each Sunday a list in alphabetical order by family name, showing box numbers, is placed on the desk in front of the mailboxes. (Please note: this is a mailbox number only; there are no changes to envelope numbers for donations to Knox.) Nametags to wear at coffee hour and other events can be left in your mailbox for safekeeping. If you would like a Knox nametag, or if we missed giving you a mailbox, please write your name on the list in front of the boxes. |

Christian Action & Outreach
Food Collection: Please bring donations of non-perishable food items this Sunday for the Centretown Community Food Centre! It's the second Sunday of the month when we normally have the food drive, though with the continuing concerns for food insecurity let's make this an opportunity to demonstrate our generosity and concern for people in need. Dennis Hansen, new Manager of the Food Centre, will also be introduced to us and will speak about his new role and the concern of food insecurity in our city. Out of the Cold: Last Saturday, 72 guests were welcomed to our weekly meal. Thank you to Team 1 for preparing and serving last Saturday, and to Team 2 which oversees the meal this weekend. Meals are served from 4-5 pm with doors opening 3:30 pm. Anyone interested in volunteering, send a note to our Coordinator, Nic Van Beek (knoxottawaootc@gmail.com). Centretown Churches Social Action Committee: For the latesat news from CCSAC, the most recent newsletter can be found HERE. |
