The Life & Work of Knox Church
We are a Christian community seeking to grow in knowledge of Jesus Christ and to live our lives as he teaches us. As part of our efforts to honour our First Nations sisters and brothers, we acknowledge the Algonquin First Nations people, upon whose traditional and unceded territory Knox Church resides. |
Worship & Reflection
Sunday Worship: This weekend, the focus for Pastor Jim's sermon is The Way of Jesus, based on a version of The Beatitudes found in Luke 6, plus Psalm 1 and Jeremiah 17:5-10. We will also welcome Susan Toman as our guest musician! For those joining the service on-line, the livestream begins @ 10:20 a.m HERE. Worship services are also archived on our YouTube Channel (Knox Ottawa) and on our website (HERE). A copy of the liturgy can be found at the end of this newsletter. Children and Youth: Children and youth are invited to join in Bible-based exploration and activities, and parents and grandparents are welcome to have fun with us too! All will participate in worship in the sanctuary until Children’s Time, then exit via the side door for Sunday School. If you have questions about Knox Sunday School, or would like to get involved, please contact knoxsundayschoolottawa@gmail.com. If needed, a nursery on the lower level of the church, and a quiet room at the back of the sanctuary with a rocking chair, sink and toys are available for parents with babies and young children. The service can be heard from both places: in the quiet room through speakers in the narthex, and in the nursery with wifi access to the live streamed service. Everyone is also very welcome in the sanctuary. Please ask if there is anything you need. Bible Study: The next meeting of the weekly hybrid Bible Study is Wednesday, February 19th, from 10 to 11 a.m. We will be continuing the study of the Old Testament prophecy of Amos, focusing on chapter 8. To join for the first time, in person or online, send an email to pastor.jim.pot@rogers.com. Prayer & Meditation: The church is open on Wednesdays, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, for prayers, meditation, and to allow the community an opportunity to enjoy our sanctuary. Jazz Vespers: Find respite and renewal in God’s Spirit at the end of the day. Plan to join us for Jazz Vespers next Wednesday, February 19th, at 7 pm with musical guests Rob McKinnon (sax), Alex Jewell (guitar), and Owen Stanton-Kennedy (drums). |

Knox News & Events
New to Knox: Are you new to Christianity or the Presbyterian Church, and want to learn more about the teachings and history of Knox Church? Classes are Thursday evenings from 8 pm to 9:30 pm. Contact Pastor Jim (pastor.jim.pot@rogers.com) if you are interested! 2024 Annual Reports: It is once again time for each committee and group to provide a report to the congregation on its activities during the past year. Reports should be concise, and ideally should include: Office Hours & Newsletter/Bulletin: Please note that the church office will be closed on Monday, February 17, for Family Day. Next week, Marianne will be in the office on Wednesday and Thursday - 9 am to 4 pm. She will work from home on Tuesday and Friday morning. If you have an announcement for the bulletin/ newsletter, please forward it to the office by 9 am on Wednesday. Thank you. Reminder: When using unnumbered offering envelopes, please remember to include either your name or envelope number on the front on your envelope. This will ensure proper allocation of your donation. Thank you!
Mailboxes and Nametags in Geneva Hall: Mailboxes for those who attend Knox in person are located on the north side of Geneva Hall. For privacy reasons, the boxes are numbered. Each Sunday a list in alphabetical order by family name, showing box numbers, is placed on the desk in front of the mailboxes. (Please note: this is a mailbox number only; there are no changes to envelope numbers for donations to Knox.) Nametags to wear at coffee hour and other events can be left in your mailbox for safekeeping. If you would like a Knox nametag, or if we missed giving you a mailbox, please write your name on the list in front of the boxes.
