The Life & Work of Knox Church
We are a Christian community seeking to grow in knowledge of Jesus Christ and to live our lives as he teaches us. As part of our efforts to honour our First Nations sisters and brothers, we acknowledge the Algonquin First Nations people, upon whose traditional and unceded territory Knox Church resides. |
Worship & Reflection
Sunday Worship: This weekend, the focus for Pastor Jim's sermon is When Jesus Says 'Follow,' based on Luke 5:1-11 and the story of Jesus calling his first disciples. Everyone is also encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations for the Centretown Community Food Centre. For those joining the service on-line, the livestream begins @ 10:20 a.m HERE. Worship services are also archived on our YouTube Channel (Knox Ottawa) and on our website (HERE). A copy of the liturgy can be found at the end of this newsletter. If attending worship in-person, Knox Health and Safety Practices can be found HERE. Children and Youth: Children and youth are invited to join in Bible-based exploration and activities, and parents and grandparents are welcome to have fun with us too! All will participate in worship in the sanctuary until Children’s Time, then exit via the side door for Sunday School. If you have questions about Knox Sunday School, or would like to get involved, please contact knoxsundayschoolottawa@gmail.com. If needed, a nursery on the lower level of the church, and a quiet room at the back of the sanctuary with a rocking chair, sink and toys are available for parents with babies and young children. The service can be heard from both places: in the quiet room through speakers in the narthex, and in the nursery with wifi access to the live streamed service. Everyone is also very welcome in the sanctuary. Please ask if there is anything you need. Bible Study: The next meeting of the weekly hybrid Bible Study is Wednesday, February 12th, from 10 to 11 a.m. We will be continuing the study of the Old Testament prophecy of Amos, focusing on chapters 7. To join for the first time, in person or online, send an email to pastor.jim.pot@rogers.com. Prayer & Meditation: The church is open on Wednesdays, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, for prayers, meditation, and to allow the community an opportunity to enjoy our sanctuary. Jazz Vespers: Find respite and renewal in God’s Spirit at the end of the day. Plan to join us for the next Jazz Vespers on Wednesday, February 19th at 7 pm with musical guests Rob McKinnon (sax), Alex Jewell (guitar), and Owen Stanton-Kennedy (drums). |

Knox News & Events
New to Knox: Are you new to Christianity or the Presbyterian Church, and want to learn more about the teachings and history of Knox Church? Classes are Thursday evenings from 8 pm to 9:30 pm. Contact Pastor Jim (pastor.jim.pot@rogers.com) if you are interested! 2024 Annual Reports: It is once again time for each committee and group to provide a report to the congregation on its activities during the past year. Reports should be concise, and ideally should include: Office Hours & Newsletter/Bulletin: Regular church office hours are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday - 9 am to 4 pm. Marianne works from home on Tuesday and Friday morning. If you have an announcement for the bulletin/ newsletter, please forward it to the office by 9 am on Wednesday. Thank you. Reminder: When using unnumbered offering envelopes, please remember to include either your name or envelope number on the front on your envelope. This will ensure proper allocation of your donation. Thank you!
Mailboxes and Nametags in Geneva Hall: Mailboxes for those who attend Knox in person are located on the north side of Geneva Hall. For privacy reasons, the boxes are numbered. Each Sunday a list in alphabetical order by family name, showing box numbers, is placed on the desk in front of the mailboxes. (Please note: this is a mailbox number only; there are no changes to envelope numbers for donations to Knox.) Nametags to wear at coffee hour and other events can be left in your mailbox for safekeeping. If you would like a Knox nametag, or if we missed giving you a mailbox, please write your name on the list in front of the boxes.

Christian Action & Outreach
Out of the Cold: Due to a number of variables including very cold temperatures and a funeral at a neighbouring church for a former OOTC guest, there were only 69 people served at Knox last Saturday. Thanks to Team 1 for preparing and serving and to Team 2 which oversees the meal this weekend. Meals are served from 4-5 pm with doors opening 3:30 pm. Anyone interested in volunteering, send a note to our Coordinator, Nic Van Beek (knoxottawaootc@gmail.com). PWS&D Sunday: Last Sunday at Knox, we had a special emphasis on the global relief partnerships our denomination has through Presbyterian World Service & Development (PWS&D). Thank you to all who made financial contributions supporting the work of PWS&D! If you would like to learn more about PWS&D, check out their website (HERE), or see the table in Geneva Hall on Sunday for resources. Donations to PWS&D can be made through Knox, either by cheque or etransfer, by designating the gift toward PWS&D. |
