The Life & Work of Knox Church
We are a Christian community seeking to grow in knowledge of Jesus Christ and to live our lives as he teaches us. As part of our efforts to honour our First Nations sisters and brothers, we acknowledge the Algonquin First Nations people, upon whose traditional and unceded territory Knox Church resides. |
Worship & Reflection
Sunday Worship: This weeekend's sermon theme at Knox is "Speaking to Enemies" based on readings from Jonah 3:1-10 and Mark 1:14-20. For those joining the service on-line, the livestream begins @ 10:20 a.m HERE. Worship services are also archived on our YouTube Channel (Knox Ottawa) and on our website (HERE). A copy of the liturgy can be found at the end of this newsletter. If attending worship in-person, Knox Health and Safety Practices can be found HERE. Children and families: Children and youth are invited to join in Bible-based exploration and activities, and parents and grandparents are welcome to have fun with us too! All will participate in worship in the sanctuary until Children’s Time, then exit via the side door for Sunday School. If you have questions about Knox Sunday School, or would like to get involved, please contact knoxsundayschoolottawa@gmail.com. If needed, a volunteer-staffed nursery on the lower level of the church, and a quiet room at the back of the sanctuary with a rocking chair, sink and toys are available for parents with babies and young children. The service can be heard from both places: in the quiet room through speakers in the narthex, and in the nursery with wifi access to the live streamed service. Everyone is also very welcome in the sanctuary. Please ask if there is anything you need. Bible Study: Next Wednesday, January 24th, our hybrid Bible Study meets from 10-11 a.m. for a discussion of Hebrews 9. Anyone wanting to join for the first time, either in person or online, please send an email to pastor.jim.pot@rogers.com. Knox Opening Wednesdays: The Knox sanctuary is open Wednesdays between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m for quiet meditation, prayer, or simply to enjoy the peace and sacred space. Jazz Vespers: If you missed Jazz Vespers this week, the service is available to view online through our Knox Ottawa YouTube channel or simply by clicking (HERE). Our musicians were Doug Martin (saxophone) and Ian Card (piano) and our theme for poetry and readings was "Faith that Works" |

Service & Fellowship
Knox Book Club: The next meeting of the Knox Book Club is Sunday, February 11th at noon in the Knox Parlour. Jason Bell's book, Cracking the Nazi Code: The Untold Story of Canada's Greatest Spy, will be discussed. Everyone is welcome. Chili Lunch: The Knox Sunday School will be hosting a free Chili lunch on Sunday, February 18. This is part of the Family Day Weekend. Save the date. All are welcome to join after worship. Have you been itching to share your latest chili or sour dough recipe? If you would like to donate food to this Knox fellowship event, please email pottawas@gmail.com. We are looking for five med/large pots of chili, 10 dozen buns/bread, one pound of butter and three 20 packs of paper bowls. Meat, vegetarian and vegan chili are all welcome. We would love to hear from you! No RSVP needed to join-the Knox family table always has room.
Nursery Help Needed: Nursery volunteers are needed to ensure that the youngest who come to worship at Knox and their families feel welcome, safe and comfortable, and that they enjoy their time with us. The role of the nursery volunteer is to provide care for infants, toddlers and young children. Youth helpers are welcomed, and may assist in the nursery under the supervision of an adult nursery volunteer. The goal is to have enough volunteers to be able to offer a roster that asks for 1 shift per month; the more volunteers we have, the less often you will be needed. If you would like to help in the nursery, please contact: knoxottawa@rogers.com.
