Last week the Knox Church property became a construction zone!
In June the Temporal Board and the Elders of Session, convinced that repairs to the supporting buttresses of our Elgin Street tower require urgent attention, requested bids through a professional engineering consultant who will manage the project.
Following a thorough assessment of our building in 2019, this is the first major project of an overall plan to ensure areas of required restoration are addressed in a timely fashion. We have been entrusted with an architecturally beautiful church building, including one of the most majestic sanctuaries in the capital region and various spaces for ministry supporting our community.
Estimated costs of the present project are $125,000 and we are thankful to have already received some significant donations. While Knox has a relatively healthy Capital Fund, keeping a healthy balance for this account is key to the long-term vitality and mission of our urban congregation. For this reason, the “Restoration Fund” at Knox has been re-activated, and opportunities are being made available to contribute toward this summer’s project.
We recognize many people have already given generously this year toward our regular ministry costs and the extra efforts of the TAKE OUT MEAL ministry during the pandemic. If you have the means and would like to add a contribution to this project, the following options are available:
1. By cheque on Sunday or postal service, designated to Knox Presbyterian Church, Ottawa with the notation of “Restoration Fund” in the memo line.
2. With an e-transfer to Knox, and a notation of “Restoration Fund” in the electronic message.
3. Through the “Canada Helps” donation button on our church website, by clicking on the “Restoration Fund” option. As with any other donations toward Knox, funds designated for this project will be tax-receiptable and added to any other contributions for 2020.
